The area around Betlem is a trekkers paradise. There are several coastal and mountain walks offering spectacular views of Alcudia Bay.
It is possible to walk the coastline between Betlem and Can Picaford, via the charming villages of Colonia De Sant pere and Son Serra De Marina. Pack your swimwear as there are several empty beaches and lovely coves for swimming. After Son Serra de Marina, one can walk through the Son Real protected area which has a number of prehistoric remains of the municipality of Santa Margalida. One can walk right by one of the finest sites – the Necropolis, which is by the sea, partially destroyed by water, just off the shore. It comprises of many different types, shapes and sizes of tombs, many of which have been excavated. This is a chance to take in some prehistoric ruins from around 500-10BC! This is a fabulous part of the island and it is, in our opinion, very under-rated from a walkers' perspective. |
There are many beautiful walks in the hills above Betlem. These are well signposted from just outside the village. The popular walk up to the Monastery (Ermita De Betlem) and its fresh water source is 1 hour in duration. There are fantastic views over Alcudia Bay during this walk. You can continue from the Ermita de Betlem either over the hill to the Roman Market Town of Arta (a further 1 hours gentle walk) or enter the Peninsula del LLevant National Park with its vast array of walks. |
